Luna is a meal and nutrition tracking app. This section explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us and we'll clarify it.
Information we collect
Luna asks for a few kinds of information so it can calculate your nutrition targets and keep track of your progress:
Profile details you enter
- Name, date of birth, and gender
- Height, current weight, and goal weight
- Activity level, dietary preferences, and allergies
- Daily water and sleep targets
- Your primary health goal (e.g. lose weight, build muscle)
Meal and activity data
- Meals you log, including any nutrition estimates generated for them
- Your daily logging streak
- Photos you choose to attach to a meal, if you grant photo library access
Account and purchase information
- Your email address, if you sign in with Apple or provide one
- Subscription status and purchase history for Luna Pro, handled by our payment provider (see below)
Technical information
- Basic device and crash diagnostics, used only to fix bugs
How we use it
We use the information above to:
- Calculate your BMI, BMR, daily calorie target, and macro breakdown
- Estimate the nutrition content of meals you log
- Show your streak and nutrition trends over time
- Recommend recipes that fit your diet and goals
- Manage your Luna Pro subscription and restore purchases
- Diagnose and fix crashes or bugs
We don't use your health information for advertising, and we don't sell it.
Where your data lives
Your profile, meal logs, and streak are stored locally on your device using standard on-device storage, not in a cloud account tied to your identity. That means:
- Uninstalling the app, or using "Clear local cache" or "Delete Account" in Settings, permanently removes this data from your device.
- Data isn't automatically synced across devices unless a future version of the app explicitly adds that and tells you.
Some information — like your subscription status and any nutrition estimates generated by our AI provider — necessarily passes through servers to be processed, described next.
Third-party services
Luna relies on a small number of outside services to work. Each only receives the information it needs to do its job:
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store payments) — handles authentication and in-app purchases if you use these features. Apple's own privacy policy governs data handled on their side.
- RevenueCat — manages Luna Pro subscription status and purchase validation.
- Our nutrition-estimate provider — receives the food name you enter so it can return an estimated calorie/macro breakdown. It does not receive your profile or identity.
- Crash and error reporting — receives technical diagnostics (device type, OS version, and the error itself) to help us fix bugs. This is not linked to your name or health data.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe and minimize what leaves your device in the first place.
Children's privacy
Luna is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your choices
You're in control of your data. From Settings you can edit any profile field at any time, clear your locally stored meal logs and analytics with "Clear local cache," or permanently delete your account and all associated data with "Delete Account." You can also revoke photo library access at any time from your device's system settings.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Luna after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
